Sakkarai Pongal/Sweet Pongal


Sakkarai Pongal is a sweet pongal made from rice, dhal and jaggery , topped with fried cashews and raisins.


Serves:4

Ingredients:
  • Rice - 1/2 cup
  • Moong dhal - 2 tbsp
  • Channa dhal - 1 tbsp
  • Gratted Jaggery - 1/2 cup 
  • Sugar - 1/4 cup
  • Cashew -handful
  • Raisin - handful
  • Cardamom - 2
  • Ghee - 1/4 cup
  • Milk - 1/2 cup
Method:
  1. Wash and rinse rice and dhal, mix them together
  2. Pressure cook it with 2 cups water and 1/2 cup milk for 3 whistles
  3. Open it when pressure is released and mash with a wooden ladle
  4. Heat ghee and fry cashew, raisin, powdered cardamom and keep aside 
  5. Heat pan in medium heat, add mashed rice dhal mix, grated jaggery and sugar till jaggery and sugar melts 
  6. Add fried cashew and raisin
  7. Serve hot and enjoy

    1. I used to work in India and this sounds so much like a dish there I fell in love with! I'm hoping I can find these ingredients you refer to so I can try it. I'm off to google what some of them are!
