Thattai, crispy and flat, deep fried savory snack made for Diwali . It's a famous snack in South India known by different names like Paruppu Villai/ Nippatti/ Nippattu/ Nippattlu .
Makes : 30
Ingredients:
- Par-Boiled Rice - 2 cup
- Urad dal flour - 1/2 cup
- Channa dal - 2 tbsp
- Split Moong dal - 2 tbsp
- Garlic cloves - 5
- Curry leaves - 2 strand
- Butter - 2 tbsp
- Red chilly powder - 1 tsp
- Sesame seeds - 1 tsp
- Salt
- Oil
Method:
- Soak rice for 2 hrs and grind to smooth paste by adding little water.
- Soak channa dal and split moong dal in water for 30 mins.
- In low flame slightly roast urad dal flour
- Grind garlic to paste and set aside
- Chop curry leaves
- Mix ground rice, urad dal flour, garlic paste, curry leaves, sesame seeds, soaked channa dal, moong dal, red chilly powder, salt to taste
- Add melted butter, little water and form smooth dough
- Place greased ziploc sheet in a plate
- Make lime size balls of the dough
- Grease finger with oil and flatten the dough to form small flat dis
- Heat oil in a kadai and deep fry thattai till its golden brown and flip it to cook both side
- Store in air-tight container
