Mango Semiya Payasam

Wish you all a very happy and prosperous Tamil new year (Inniya tamil puthandu vazhthukal).


Semiya Payasam / kheer, is an integral part of traditional South Indian meal. Here is payasam with a fusion of mango flavor.

Serves:4

Ingredients:
  • Semiya/Vermicelli - 1/2 cup
  • Javarusi/ Tapioca pearls/ sabudana/sago - 1/4 cup
  • Ghee - 2 tsp
  • Milk - 4 cup
  • Sweetened Mango pulp - 2 tbsp
  • Sugar - 1-1/2 tbsp
  • Raisin - 10
  • Cashew - 6
  • Saffron - few
  • Cardamom - 2 
Method:
  1. Soak Sabudana in water for 30 mins and cook in microwave till soft, discard water and keep aside
  2. Heat pan, add ghee, fry raisins and broken cashew for garnishing and set aside
  3. In same pan fry semiya till it starts to change color and  keep aside
  4. Heat wide heavy bottom pan, add milk and stir occasionally
  5. When milk starts to boil, add fried vermicelli and boiled sabudana
  6. Cook till vermicelli and sabudana are soft 
  7. Add mango pulp and sugar and cook for 5 min
  8. Soak saffron in warm milk and stir for color and flavor
  9. Add powdered cardamom and switch off stove
  10. Garnish with fried cashews, raisins and serve hot or freeze and serve cold
