Chakli / Murukku, spicy crunchy spirals that are deep fried. It's a popular Diwali snack made by pressing dough using mold.
Makes: 20
Ingredients:
- Rice flour - 2 cup
- Roasted gram - 1 cup
- Hing / Asafoetida - 1/2 tsp
- Butter - 2 tbsp
- Red chilly powder - 1 tsp
- Ajwain - 1 tsp
- Salt
- Oil
- Dry grind roasted gram to powder
- Mix rice flour, roasted gram flour, hing, red chilly powder, ajwain and salt
- Add melted butter and water around 3/4 cup and knead to smooth dough.
- Place greased plastic sheet in a plate
- Use murukku presser with 1 Star achu or plate
- Fill it with dough and squeeze out the dough by rotating the murukku maker round and round to form circle shaped murukku in a greased plate.
- Repeat it for remaining dough and deep fry till its golden brown on both sides
