Chakli / Murukku - Diwali prep week


Chakli / Murukku, spicy crunchy spirals that are deep fried. It's a popular Diwali snack made by pressing dough using mold.

Makes: 20

Ingredients:
  • Rice flour - 2 cup
  • Roasted gram - 1 cup
  • Hing / Asafoetida - 1/2 tsp
  • Butter - 2 tbsp
  • Red chilly powder - 1 tsp
  • Ajwain - 1 tsp
  • Salt
  • Oil
Method:

  1. Dry grind roasted gram to powder
  2. Mix rice flour, roasted gram flour, hing, red chilly powder, ajwain and salt
  3. Add melted butter and water around 3/4 cup and knead to smooth dough.
  4. Place greased plastic sheet in a plate 
  5. Use murukku presser with 1 Star achu or plate
  6. Fill it with dough and squeeze out the dough by rotating the murukku maker round and round to form circle shaped murukku in a greased plate.
  7. Repeat it for remaining dough and deep fry till its golden brown on both sides
