Tomato Kurma / Thakkali Kurma, simple South-Indian Kurma made from onion and tomato cooked with Indian spices, goes well with Idli, dosa or roti.

- Onion - 2
- Tomato - 4
- Cilantro - handful
- Cinnamon - 1
- Cloves - 2
- Fennel seeds - 1 tsp
- Curry leaves - 1 strand
- Salt
- Urad dal - 1 tsp
- Channa dal - 3 tsp
- Coriander seeds - 1 tsp
- Red chilly - 4
- Grated Coconut - 1 tbsp
- Heat little oil, fry all ingredients listed under "grind to paste" and grind to smooth paste by adding little water and set aside
- Heat pan, add oil, cinnamon, cloves, fennel seeds, curry leaves and fry till spices start to change color
- Add chopped onion and fry till translucent
- Add chopped tomato and fry till oil separates
- Add ground paste, salt to taste and 1 cup water to get the consistency of kurma
- Allow for a boil, garnish with chopped cilantro and serve with idly/dosa/roti
