Pasi Paruppu Payasam - Happy Tamil New year

Iniya Tamil Puthandu Naal Vaazhthukkal / Wish you all a very Happy Tamil New year. 

Pasi Paruppu Payasam / Malabar payasam / Moong dal Kheer  New Year's sweet treat.

Serves : 4

  • Moong dal - 1/2 cup
  • Jaggery (grated) - 3/4 cup
  • Sugar - 2 tsp
  • Milk - 1 cup
  • Cardamom - 2
  • Cashew nuts (broken) - 1 tbsp
  • Raisins - 1 tbsp
  • Shredded Coconut  - 1 tbsp
  • Ghee - 2 tsp
  1. Dry roast moong dal for couple of mins in low flame till you get the aroma
  2. Pressure cook moong dal with 1 cup water for 3 whistles, mash them and set aside
  3. Boil milk / Microwave milk for 1 min and set aside
  4. In a pan add ghee, fry cashew, raisins, grated coconut and keep aside
  5. In same pan add 1 cup water and melt jaggery and sugar
  6. Now add mashed dal and  mix well and cook for a min 
  7. Add powdered cardamom, boiled milk, roasted cashew and  raisins
  8. Serve hot and enjoy
