Spinach Dal

Spinach dal, easy and healthy dal, commonly served with white rice or roti / Chapati.

Serves:2

Ingredients:
  • Spinach - 2 cups
  • Toor dal - 1/4 cup
  • Onion - 1/2
  • Tomato -1
  • Garlic - 4 cloves
  • Green chilly - 1
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida - 1/4 tsp
  • Thalipu vadagam - 1
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Red chilly - 1
  • Ghee/Melted butter - 1 tsp
  • Salt
Method: 
  1. Pressure cook toor dal, chopped onion, tomato, slit green chilly, crushed garlic, turmeric powder, few drops of oil, salt to taste, one cup water for 3 whistles
  2. In a pan boil water, add chopped spinach leaves, cook for 5 mins and drain water
  3. Heat pan, add pressure cooked dal mixture, boiled spinach leaves and bring to a boil
  4. For seasoning, heat ghee, add mustard, cumin seeds, thalipu vadagam, asafoetida, red chilly and add it to spinach dal mixture
  5. Serve hot with white rice and ghee
